Jean-Arnaud Frantzen has been the cellar master and head blender at Michel Couvreur since the passing of the brands namesake in 2013, and since then has followed in the footsteps of a man who pioneered the maturation of whisky in modern continental Europe. Michel's experience in the whisky industry began in 1964 when he moved his Burgundy wine business to Scotland. Becoming intrigued by the whisky industry he soon struck wonderful relationships with numerous distilleries who were happy at the time to see their product sold and experimented with.

Upon returning to France in the early 70's Michel began ageing these Scotch distilled spirits in his family caves 15 metres below ground. The environment was perfect for slow, humid maturation in the best sherry casks in existence. The legacies of melding traditional maturation with progressive methods create the "dance of maturation". The process is now stringently overseen by Michel's daughter Alexandra and partner Cyril with the expert guidance of your guest Jean-Arnaud.

Jean-Arnaud began the blending and cellar master role at Michel Couvreur in 1998 after studying oenology, working closely with Michel and the rest of the team to continue the great work of a magnificent company.

It would be an opportunity missed to not include some wonderful cheese from the Burgundy region, so we've worked with our friends at Spring Street Grocer's Cheese Cellar to bring you Burgundian cheeses to compliment the Michel Couvreur range.
