VIRTUAL EVENT

Join us live from the US as Global Commercial Director of Westland Distillery, Chris Riesbeck takes you through the Westland American single malt range, PLUS a side-by-side of two different vintages of their Garryana Oak, and the official launch of the Westland Colere; part two of Westland Distillery's 'Outpost Range.' All this wouldn't be complete without Brand Ambassador Andy Buntine steering the ship, and a cameo from Westland Distillery Co-Founder Matt Hofmann, don't miss out on this meeting of minds!

Westland Distillery’s Outpost Range has revealed its second member: The Westland Colere Edition 1, American Single Malt Whiskey. The Outpost Range was first introduced in August 2020 to reflect the Seattle distiller’s core mission to pursue new possibilities in single malt and leave behind the path well trodden. Colere, from a Latin verb meaning “to cultivate,” encapsulates this mission in a single word, and signifies a venture into the thousands of uncharted barley varietals whose flavour has yet to be considered.

We’ve been working on these projects, exploring the Pacific Northwest and its bounty, for years,” said Westland Co-Founder Matt Hofmann in a statement via WhiskyWash.

Colere has been years in the making and we’re thrilled to present this first edition. The project celebrates terroir in whiskey and takes a big step towards reconnecting our industry with agriculture, something that has been unfortunately lost over the past several decades.

To develop this barley, Westland Distillery worked closely with Washington State University's Bread Lab in prioritising sustainable agriculture methods and, of course, flavour.

Fun fact: To date, Westland has distilled more than 20 different varieties of barley (which is more than the entire Scotch whisky industry combined) in just 10 years, and has committed nearly 40% of their annual production to these unique barleys.

About your presenter:

Chris Riesbeck - Global Commercial Director

Chris joined Westland Distillery with a knowledge of whiskey that takes most a lifetime to gain. In 2015 he was recognised by Whisky Magazine as a Highly Commended Scotch Whisky Ambassador of the Year. In the same year, he was inducted to the Keepers of the Quaich, an organisation dedicated to promoting the values and image of Scotch Whisky across the world. Chris is the youngest ever American-born Keeper. His first love was Scotch whisky but, as the world of malt whisky has expanded, so too has his interest and passion for other world malts; most notably American Single Malt. This led him to Westland. In his role as Global Commercial Director, he travels the world introducing not just the whiskey but the idea of Westland, and the stories that come with it.
