100 Years of Suntory Whisky

  • Duration: 90 Minutes (approx.)
  • Location: Melbourne, VIC

House Suntory is celebrating 100 years in 2023, and what a century it's been. Join us as we delve into releases from the last two decades of Suntory in an exclusive tasting from our rarest and most coveted vintage Japanese whiskies.  Whisky & Alement has been in a love affair with Japanese whisky since our inception over a decade ago, and as such we have built up a small but wide-ranging collection of rare bottlings from Suntory. For this exclusive tasting event, we'll be opening bottles worth a combined retail value of approximately $10,000. Guest will also be served traditional Japanese izakaya snacks as part of the experience.

Founded in 1923 by Shinjiro Tori and Masataka Taketsuru (who would go on to found Nikka Whisky), Suntory has grown from a mad-capped vision of brining Scottish style whisky production to Japan into a global beverage behemoth. But it wasn't until a few highly-publicised awards in recent years that people outside Japan started taking these incredible whiskies seriously, leading to supply shortages and skyrocketing prices. This once-in-a-century tasting will be co-hosted by Tom Scott of Beam Suntory and Matt Bailey of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society to discuss the past, present and very bright future of House Suntory 100 years into their journey.
